| Auckland Sector | NZCH-A_CTR |
The Auckland Sector airspace covers the upper half of the North Island. It encompasses the airspace above the Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, King Country, Rotorua/Taupo, East Cape and Poverty Bay regions.
The major airport is Auckland International (NZAA), VATNZ's busiest, which is a hub for domestic and international flights. Other significant regional airports are Hamilton (NZHN), Tauranga (NZTG), Rotorua (NZRO), Taupo (NZAP), and Gisborne (NZGS). Other smaller centres such as Kaitaia (NZKT), Kerikeri/Bay of Islands (NZKK), Whangarei (NZWR) and Whakatane (NZWK) are also served by regular feeder services, and the airforce maintains its northern base at Whenuapai (NZWP) north-west of Auckland.
International traffic radiates out from Auckland in almost every direction: north-east to the Pacific Islands and North America, south-east to South America, west to Australia, and north-west to Asia. Domestic traffic is similarly radial in nature, however the sector's busiest airspace is usually along the west coast south of Auckland, the standard routing for flights serving Wellington and the South Island.
This sector is bordered by Wellington Sector and Ohakea Sector to the south, and New Zealand Oceanic - Auckland Sector in all other directions.
