| South Island - South Sector | NZCH-S_CTR |
South Island - South Sector consists of the airspace above the southern half of Westland and Canterbury, Otago, Southland, and Fiordland.
The two busiest airports in the region are Dunedin (NZDN) and Queenstown (NZQN). Both are served by regular flights to other New Zealand centres, as well as a smaller number of trans-Tasman flights from airports on Australia's eastern seaboard. Other significant regional airports include Invercargill (NZNV), and the smaller towns of Timaru (NZTU), Oamaru (NZOU), and Wanaka (NZWF).
Traffic here is the lightest of all the New Zealand sectors as the region lacks the population or overflight scenarios that benefit its northern neighbours. However, with a geography dominated by mountains and lakes, the sector contains a number of airfields popular with tourism and smaller operators such as Mount Cook (NZMC), Franz Josef Glacier (NZFJ), and Milford Sound (NZMF).
The sector is bordered to the north by South Island - North Sector, and in all other directions by New Zealand Oceanic - Auckland Sector.
