| New Zealand Oceanic - Auckland Sector |
NZZO_FSS |
The New Zealand Oceanic - Auckland Sector is comprised of the airspace above Samoa, the Cook Islands, Tonga, and Niue as well as the oceans surrounding New Zealand, north of 60° South.
Major airports within the sector include:
- Faleolo (NSFA) in Western Samoa;
- Pago Pago International (NSTU) in American Samoa;
- Rarotonga (NCRG) in the Cook Islands;
- Fua'amotu (NFTF) in Tonga;
- Niue International (NIUE) in Niue.
As well as flights to and from airports within the sector, a significant proportion of traffic seen here is overflights from New Zealand and Australia to destinations in the Americas.
The sector also extends west of New Zealand to the border with the Australian airspace under the jurisdiction of VATPAC, and there is a steady flow of traffic in this area crossing the Tasman between the two nations.
Also of note is Norfolk Island (YSNF), north-west of New Zealand's North Island. Although the island falls with the boundaries of this sector, it is Australian territory and as a result the airport and the airspace immediately surrounding it falls under the auspices of VATPAC.
This sector is bordered by Nadi Oceanic to the north-west, Oakland Oceanic to the extreme north, Tahiti Oceanic to the north-east, New Zealand Oceanic - McMurdo Sector to the south, and Brisbane Oceanic (Tasman) to the west. The airspace to the east of this sector is uncontrolled.
