Sunday Night Ops - 14th March 2010 - Circuit Master Part 1 Print E-mail
Written by David Walsh
Tuesday, 09 March 2010

With winter fast approaching and the days becoming shorter, the available time for a quick VFR flight after work or school becomes less and less.

This weeks SNO is Part 1 of the new Circuit Master series of VFR SNOs based out of busy VFR fields. This Sunday, we are focusing on our busiest controlled Regional Airfield - Hamilton (NZHN).

Make sure you make the most of the daylight by filling up the Hamilton circuit or flying VFR to, from or around Hamilton. Hamilton is a popular training destination for flying schools based out of North Shore, Ardmore, Tauranga and New Plymouth.

Sunday Night Ops - 7th March 2010: New Plymouth, Tauranga, and Napier Print E-mail

It's Anniversary Day this weekend in Taranaki, and to celebrate we're adding some new regional services to New Plymouth airport (NZNP).

Join the fun by flying between three great North Island regional centres: New Plymouth, Tauranga, and Napier. Each flight sector is around 120nm so it's perfectly suited for turbo-props and small jets. With roughly forty-five minute flight times, the goal is to start at any of the three airports, and complete the full circuit back to your starting point via the other two.

This is an opportunity for pilots and controllers to spend some time discovering the fun of operating in the North Island's smaller centres. The challenge here is to fill the skies in a part of the VATNZ airspace that doesn't often see enough traffic to attract regular ATC.

Event Times: Sunday 7th March 2010 1900-2330 NZDT / 0600-1030 UTC / 1700-2130 AEDT

For more details, including flight plans and airport information, see the VATNZ Forums post.
