Queenstown (NZQN)

This week's focus airport is Queenstown (NZQN). Queenstown is located in the Otago region of the South Island, around the inlet of Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu. Queenstown is a very popular tourist destination with the airport packed with scheduled and private operators. The major operators are Air New Zealand (domestic and international), Mount Cook Airlines (Regional), Glenorchy Air (Regional), Jetstar (domestic and international), Pacific Blue (international), Qantas (international) and Virgin Australia (international). There are also various skydive and sightseeing operators based in Queenstown.

Queenstown (NZQN) is procedurally controlled (no radar) and is equipped with VORDME for approaches. You can expect a VORDME approach or an RNAV approach. Both of these have a visual segment involved where the pilot is required to complete a figure of eight pattern before landing. The airport does not have an ILS. You may request a visual approach if the weather is good on the night. The approach in use at the time will be stated in the ATIS.

Bring out your favourite aircraft and fly into or out of Queenstown (NZQN) or plug into an ATC position listed below and don't miss out on the action.
