Return to Standard

At 03:00 local time, New Zealand turns its clocks back and 'Returns to Standard' time.

This sees a number of local flight schedules change in order to beat the failing light at night, especially into one of our favourite airports, NZQN Queenstown.

Thousands of people flock into Queenstown every year for the glaciers, snow and natural attractions it has to offer and now is the chance to fly in before the winter hits.

Pilots will fly between Christchurch and Queenstown, a comfortable trip in 40-45 minutes. The route is serviced by Air New Zealand in the A320, Air New Zealand Link in the ATR72 and Jetstar in the A320.

The approach into Queenstown will see pilots test their skills as there's no ILS and the VOR/DME approaches require a visual circuit below the mountain tops, around a tight valley before levelling out on final approach. Pilots will need to read and understand the approach charts long before they arrive into Queenstown.

Note: There is a published RNAV (RNP) approach for approved operators but this approach is not available in the procdure files from Navigraph or NavDataPro.
