Waitangi Day

February 6th is New Zealand's national day - Waitangi Day. While the rest of us make the most of the late summer weather, the country's political leaders, their hangers-on, and the media all descend on Waitangi, the small Northland community where the nation's founding document was signed.

This is the busiest day of the year for nearby Kerikeri Airport (NZKK) as the regional airport is overrun with flights carrying the VIPs to and from the commemorations.

The larger jets are left behind in Auckland as we break out the 737s and props to shuttle the dignitories from the big smoke to the Far North. Depending on your aircraft, flight time should be 30-45 minutes each way, so time should allow you to fly a couple of legs.
