VATNZ Seeks New Operations Director

The VATNZ Board is now inviting applications for the position of Operations Director.

This is a Board-level leadership role responsible for the oversight of VATNZ’s operational activities. From managing airspace boundaries and coordinating procedural changes, to maintaining datasets and leading the Operations Team, the Operations Director plays a central role in how VATNZ runs day-to-day.

You’ll work closely with the Division Director and other Board members, helping to shape policy and operational direction across the Division.

About the Role

The Operations Director is responsible for:

  • Overseeing airspace operations across the VATNZ Division

  • Developing and publishing procedures, policies, and NOTAMs

  • Maintaining VATNZ’s aeronautical datasets and controller tooling

  • Coordinating with adjoining divisions on Letters of Agreement and airspace integration

  • Managing the Operations Team and supporting broader divisional projects

  • Contributing to strategic planning and Board-level decision-making

This is a volunteer position and a full voting member of the VATNZ Board. The expected time commitment is approximately 5 hours per week, depending on current projects.

Who Should Apply?

To be competitive in your application, you should:

  • Be a current VATNZ member in good standing, for at least 12 months

  • Ideally hold a C1 rating (experienced S3s will still be considered)

  • Have strong technical literacy and written communication skills

  • Be confident using VATSIM controller client software

  • Have a good working knowledge of VATSIM and real-world aviation procedures

  • Demonstrate experience in managing small teams or projects

Additionally, experience with documentation workflows, operational tooling, or the New Zealand aviation landscape is beneficial but not required.
