Training Director

Duties:
- Lead the Training Team by providing mentorship, monitoring performance, supporting the Training Manager, and ensuring staff maintain instructional competence and consistency.
- Develop, maintain and publish training policies, documentation and supporting materials that align with VATSIM regulations and contribute to the department's long-term strategic direction.
- Oversee the delivery and effectiveness of training programmes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and instructional quality.
- Manage the issuance of controller rating upgrades for the Division for S1 to C1 in accordance with VATSIM policy, and oversee the appointment of staff to the I1 rating. Nominate staff for appointment to I3 status for ratification by the Board.
- Monitor VATSIM-related changes that may impact VATNZ training or standards, and ensure timely adaptaion of local material as required.
- Report on training activities to the VATNZ Board through written updates and meeting participation, and ensure public-facing content remains current and accurate.
- Participate in Board-level discussions and planning, including attendance at periodic Board meetings and contribution to division-wide initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic decision-making, policy review, and the long-term planning of VATNZ training.
- Carry out other duties as agreed with the Division Director.
Position Holder Attributes:
- Be a member of the VATNZ Division for a period longer than 12 month and in good standing.
- Hold a minimum controller rating of C1 (Enroute Controller).
- Have a sound knowledge of VATSIM policies, including the Global Controller Administration Policy (GCAP) and Transfer and Visiting Controller policy.
- Demonstrate familiarity with VATNZ training and operational policies.
- Demonstrate proven ability in managing a small team.
- Possess strong written communication skills, with experience drafting procedures, policy or documentation.
- Demonstrate proven competence in the use of VATSIM-approved controller client software.
- Have prior experience in instruction, mentoring and coordinating a team of instructors or mentors in a structured training environment.
