Hastings Fly-in

Join us for the first May Fly-in at Hastings Aerodrome!

Friday Night Fly-Ins are designed to bring the experience of a General Aviation fly-in to VATSIM. While we can't simulate the fun that fly-in's provide once you arrive, we can certainly provide the fun experience of actually flying in.

These events will be moving around airports in NZ and could be Controlled and Un-controlled airports but the flying is primarly focused on VFR flying.

Fly-in time is scheduled for 8:30pm NZ time, (0830 UTC) so plan to arrive at Hastings around then.

Located in the sunney Hawkes Bay region, Hastings (NZHS) is a small uncontrolled airfield located just west of Hastings township. It operates of a main 1075m long seal 01/19, a parallel 880m long grass 01/19 and a grass/seal 884/295m long 11/29. Hastings is home to both the Hawkes Bay and East Coast Aeroclub and the Air Hawkes Bay training academy, as well as being a home to a ton of private aicraft.

There are some nice short flight options with the shortest being the quick hop from Napier (NZNR). Other short routes include Waipukurau (NZYP) and Taupo (NZAP). Longer options include some cool places like Gisborne (NZGS) and Masterton (NZMS). Hastings does support IFR traffic as it's used as an IFR training base by Air Hawkes Bay.

After arriving, be sure to stick around to watch and listen to the other traffic coming in and out for the airport for the event, then why not pick a different airport to depart to and enjoy the fantastic scenery the area has to offer.

ATC

ATC for Core positions will be rostered on by the Events Director for Friday Fly-in events.

This decision was made due to the high interest in controlling and limited positions available.

Core positions will be the positions listed below on this page.

Hastings is an uncontrolled airport with ATC provided by Naiper tower from 2500ft and above which will be staffed for the event.
