Looking for something a little different during the week? Off the Beaten Path: Midweek Edition is a relaxed event series running every second Wednesday from 1900 to 2100 local time.

Instead of the usual busy international airports, each event will shine a spotlight on one of New Zealand's smaller aerodromes or regional airports that doesn't often receive the attention they deserve. With fewer pilots and controllers than our larger weekend events, it's the perfect opportunity to explore somewhere new, sharpen your flying or controlling skills, and enjoy a more relaxed ATC environment.

This week, we fly into Wānaka! Nestled between the crystal-clear waters of Lake Wānaka and the dramatic peaks of the Southern Alps, Wānaka is one of New Zealand's most spectacular flying destinations. Surrounded by towering mountains, deep valleys and breathtaking alpine scenery, it offers a unique challenge for pilots while rewarding every approach with unforgettable views. The region is also steeped in aviation history, serving as a hub for mountain flying, flight training and the world-renowned Warbirds Over Wānaka airshow. Whether you're looking to test your IFR skills or simply enjoy one of the country's most scenic arrivals, this event is the perfect opportunity to experience why Wānaka is a favourite among Kiwi aviators.
