VATNZ seeks a new Events Director

The VATNZ Board is now inviting applications for the position of Events Director.

This is a Board-level leadership role responsible for the oversight of VATNZ’s events portfolio. From planning and promoting events, to coordinating with controllers and building relationships with other divisions, the Events Director plays a central role in delivering engaging and consistent events across the Division.

You’ll work closely with the Division Director and other Board members, helping to shape divisional direction and community engagement across VATNZ.


About the Role

The Events Director is responsible for:

  • Leading the VATNZ Events Team and maintaining accountability for the planning and delivery of events across the Division
  • Overseeing the organisation, scheduling, promotion, and execution of VATNZ events
  • Ensuring a consistent programme of events that caters to the community and aligns with divisional objectives
  • Coordinating with controllers and relevant departments to ensure events are appropriately supported operationally
  • Building and maintaining relationships with other VATSIM divisions and external organisations to support collaborative events
  • Monitoring event participation, engagement, and outcomes, and reporting on events and activities to the VATNZ Board
  • Contributing to strategic planning and Board-level decision-making

This is a volunteer position and a full voting member of the VATNZ Board. The expected time commitment is approximately 3–5 hours per week, depending on the event calendar and current projects.


Who Should Apply?

To be competitive in your application, you should:

  • Be a current VATNZ member in good standing, for at least 12 months
  • Have a good understanding of VATSIM and VATNZ operations, with relevant ATC or operational experience
  • Be comfortable working with others and coordinating across different teams and divisions
  • Be organised and able to manage multiple events and timelines effectively
  • Be a clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal
  • Have experience in organising, supporting, or participating in events within VATSIM or similar environments

Additionally, prior experience in team leadership, community engagement, or collaborative event planning would be beneficial, but is not required.
