Paraparaumu Fly-in

Our second Fly-in of July is going to be Paraparaumu Airport!

Friday Night Fly-Ins are designed to bring the experience of a General Aviation fly-in to VATSIM. While we can't simulate the fun that fly-in's provide once you arrive, we can certainly provide the fun experience of actually flying in.

These events will be moving around airports in NZ and could be Controlled and Un-controlled airports but the flying is primarly focused on VFR flying.

Fly-in time is scheduled for 8:30pm NZ time, (0830 UTC) so plan to arrive at Paraparaumu around then.

Located in the Wellington region, Paraparaumu (NZPP) is a busy regional airport located in the heart of the Kapiti Coast. It operates off a main 1187m long seal 16/34 and a parallel 555m long grass 16/34. It also has a uni-directional 485m long grass 30 runway that is restricted to emergency landings only. Paraparaumu hosts scheduled flights from Air Chathams and Sounds Air, commerical helicopter ops from Kapiti Heliworx and tons of flight training from operators such as Kapiti Aero Club.

Lots of short flight options for Paraparaumu, including Foxpine (NZFP), Palmerston North (NZPM) and Masterton (NZMS). Longer trips could include flying down from Taupo (NZAP) or acorss the water from Nelson (NZNS). Paraparaumu is fully IFR equiped so GA IFR would be a good choice as well.

After arriving, be sure to stick around to watch and listen to the other traffic coming in and out for the airport for the event, then why not pick a different airport to depart to and enjoy the fantastic scenery the area has to offer.

Please read up on flight service procedures at this link before flying to Paraparaumu: https://www.vatnz.net/controllers/standard-operating-procedures/paraparaumu-fss/

ATC

ATC for Core positions will be rostered on by the Events Director for Friday Fly-in events.

This decision was made due to the high interest in controlling and limited positions available.

To apply please use the applications tab above. Applications will close at the end of the Tuesday before the event.

Core positions will be the positions listed below on this page.

Paraparaumu is an uncontrolled airport with a local Flight Service tower. Wellington Approach above the airport will also be staffed.
